The book collection of the library consists of books, back volumes of periodicals, theses, conference proceedings, reports, and microforms. Most of them are kept on open shelves directly accessible to the users, while some are preserved in closed stacks and made available only on request.
There are three stack areas numbered 1, 2, and 3. Stack 1 and Stack 2 hold general books arranged by decimal numbers. Each book is assigned a number from Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system, widely followed in many libraries across the globe. This number represents the subject of the book. On the shelves, the books are then arranged according to the numbers which are indicated on the spine of the books. Please consult the catalogue to find the availability and location of a book.
The library has a back-storage area that houses less used books. On the catalogue, those books are marked as “S”. If you want to consult any of those books, please contact the Users Assistance Desk, on all working days, between 10 AM to 5 PM. Alternatively, you can contact LibraryHelpDesk.
Location of Books by Subject
Books bearing class numbers 001 to 349 are housed in Stack 1. This section primarily covers materials in the lower range of the classification schedule and is arranged sequentially for easy access and retrieval.
Books with class numbers 350 to 999 are located in Stack 2. These volumes are also arranged in ascending numerical order to facilitate systematic browsing and efficient location of resources.
The bound volumes of journals are housed separately in Stack 3. These include archived and consolidated issues of periodicals preserved for long-term reference and research use.
New books that are added to our collection are prominently displayed in the Library Foyer for the benefit of our users. This dedicated display enables readers to quickly identify and explore the latest additions across various subject areas.
A consolidated list of newly acquired books is also made available on the Library Notice Board as well as on this website for convenient reference. The list includes essential bibliographic details to help users identify items relevant to their academic and research interests.
The displayed books remain in the foyer for a period of one week, allowing ample time for browsing and review. After the display period concludes, the books are transferred to their respective stack locations and become available for regular circulation.
Users are encouraged to visit the display section regularly to stay updated with the most recent additions to the Library collection.
Reference Books Collection
Reference collections including Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Directories, Handbooks, etc., and some basic books of general nature are available on open shelves on the first floor Reading Hall. These are meant for consultation within the Reading Room and must not be taken out without permission. Users are encouraged to make full use of these resources for quick fact-checking, background reading, and strengthening the conceptual foundation of their academic work.
These resources are arranged systematically for quick and convenient access, enabling users to readily consult authoritative information for academic, research, and reference purposes.
Government Reports
The Library maintains a comprehensive and well-organized collection of Government Reports covering a wide range of subjects and administrative areas. These reports include publications from central and state government bodies, statutory organizations, commissions, committees, and other official agencies.
All Government Reports are housed in Stack-1 and are systematically arranged for convenient access and retrieval.
Other Materials
We have a large collection of annual reports from various companies, summer project reports done by students of earlier batches, working papers, and research reports from various institutes. To know the collection, please consult our catalogue.
